📍 Château de Bourglinster
A couple of weeks ago we were invited to discover the new chapter of Bourglinster — and honestly, this is not exactly a place you walk into with neutral expectations.
Bourglinster comes with a serious legacy. The kind of legacy that enters the room before the first glass of wine does. So, of course, I was curious to see what direction the restaurant had taken under the new management.
And what I appreciated the most is that they did not try to recreate the past.
Same castle walls, completely different story.
Still Fine Dining, But With a Different Energy
Let’s be clear: this is still very much a fine dining restaurant. But it is fine dining in a different way than before.
Less rigid, less classical, more modern and instinctive. The new direction brings Mediterranean influences, seasonal ingredients and combinations that feel lighter, sharper and sometimes unexpected — but in the right way.
It does not feel like a copy/paste of what Bourglinster used to be. It feels like a reset.
The 5-Course Tasting Menu
We went for the 5-course tasting menu, which is probably the best way to understand the philosophy of the restaurant. The menu is served for the whole table and can also be declined in a fully vegetarian version.
During the evening, we had several dishes including beef tartare, tuna tataki, lamb and a bougatsa dessert.
The tuna tataki was my personal highlight of the night: fresh, elegant, full of flavour and beautifully balanced. The kind of dish that does not need to shout to be remembered.
The lamb was also a strong moment of the menu, while the bougatsa dessert brought a sweet and slightly unexpected Mediterranean ending to the experience.
The Wine Pairing: A Real Highlight
A very special mention goes to the wine pairing, which was honestly one of the strongest I had in a long time.
Every glass felt carefully selected. Some choices were slightly off radar, some unexpected, but everything made sense with the dish in front of us. It was precise, interesting and never boring — which, let’s be honest, is not always the case with wine pairings.
No jokes: one of the best pairings I had in ages.
The Atmosphere
The setting obviously needs no introduction. Château de Bourglinster remains one of those places that already feels special before dinner even starts.
But what I liked is that the atmosphere now feels refined without being stiff. Elegant, intimate, but still comfortable. The service was warm, natural and effortless — which makes a big difference in a fine dining experience.
Worth the Trip?
Yes.
Especially if you are looking for a date night or a special dinner that feels different from the usual city options. Bourglinster is only around 20 minutes from Luxembourg City, but the setting gives you that little escape feeling without requiring any actual logistics drama.
Still Bourglinster. Just not the one you remember.
