Como Restaurant in Esch-sur-Alzette: a rediscovery just next door

Sometimes the best places are right next to you… and somehow you still forget about them.

I first visited Como Restaurant years ago, shortly after moving to Esch. I remember it very clearly: I was pregnant, I remember what I ate, and mostly, I remember how much I enjoyed it.

Then life happened, and for some reason I never went back.

Until today.

And honestly? I regretted waiting this long almost immediately.

A fine dining touch, without losing the soul of Italian cuisine

What I loved about Como is that nothing feels forced. The cuisine is elegant, refined, and plated with almost geometric precision, but without losing the soul of real Italian cooking.

We are talking about authentic ingredients, classic recipes, proper flavours — not “Italian-inspired”, but truly Italian.

The kind of food that takes you back to the origins, but with the polish and precision of a fine dining kitchen.

What we ate

We started with their interpretation of a caprese: tomato sorbet, Sicilian mozzarella spuma and homemade crouton crumble. A familiar idea, completely reworked into something fresh, elegant and unexpected.

Then came the vitello tonnato, a dish that was already on the menu back when the restaurant held a Michelin star. A classic, yes, but one of those classics that only works when the balance is right.

We also had the lardo di Colonnata bruschetta — proof once again that the simplest things can become unforgettable when the ingredients are exceptional.

For pasta, we had homemade tagliatelle, made only with egg yolks, served with morels and asparagus. Rich, comforting, generous, and very much in line with the warning that the chef likes to put cheese almost everywhere.

And honestly, I was not complaining.

To close the savoury part, we had the polenta casoncelli: deeply comforting, rustic in spirit but refined in execution.

Dessert was strawberries Romanoff — elegant, nostalgic, fresh, simple and luxurious at the same time.

The wine pairing

One thing that really stayed with me was the wine pairing.

Not because the wines were expensive or trendy, but because every single glass came with a story.

There is a difference between simply having a good wine list and actually knowing how to talk about wine. At Como, the pairing was not just about matching flavours: it was about memories, places, choices, and little stories that made each glass more meaningful.

And for me, that changes everything.

The atmosphere

Also worth mentioning: the service.

Today, the dining room has a fresher and lighter feeling, with Renato Favaro’s son and daughter-in-law bringing a younger energy to the experience.

You still get the elegance of fine dining, but with much less stiffness. You feel welcomed, spoiled, coccolata, viziata — properly taken care of.

It feels like a place from another time, in the best possible way. For a moment, you could almost imagine yourself somewhere by a lake in Italy.

And then you remember you are simply in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Final thoughts

Como was a beautiful rediscovery. A place where Italian flavours are treated with respect, where the ingredients speak, where the wine tells a story, and where the service makes the whole experience feel warm instead of intimidating.

Sometimes, you really do not need to go far to find something special.

Sometimes, it was just next door all along.
