Podenco was a real find — and honestly, I’m slightly mad nobody made me go sooner.
It’s a bit out of my usual area, but this Gault & Millau–recognized Spanish bistro has that rare mix of soul, warmth, and just the right level of noise that makes you feel like you’re in Madrid on a Friday night.
We started with a house cocktail and a non-alcoholic sangria, both full of sunshine. Then came the classics: jamón, queso, and pan de tomate — and listen, that pan de tomate deserves its own fan club. Crunchy, juicy, and unapologetically drenched in olive oil that actually tastes like olive oil.
Jamón croquettes were the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes for a second — crispy outside, smoky and melting inside.
Patatas bravas came saucy and spicy, just messy enough to be fun.
And the pimientos de padrón? Simple, salty, satisfying — proof that sometimes you don’t mess with tradition.
Then came the squid-ink paella. Black, glossy, rich, briny — a dish that makes conversation stop and forks move faster. Perfectly cooked rice, deep flavour, a little drama on the plate.
We ended with a crema catalana that was all crunch and cream, caramelized just right.
Podenco feels like a small vacation you take between bites — intimate, noisy, sun-kissed.
Perfect for a night out with friends or a low-key date that turns into “one more glass of wine.”
Next time, I’m skipping the safe choices and going full Spanish grandma.
