Jane at Gridx — A Very Promising Newcomer (With a Few Notes)

Gridx has been buzzing lately, and the newest addition, Jane, had been on my radar since the moment the doors kind of opened — “kind of” because, technically, the restaurant is closed off from the food hall. And honestly? I like that. You’re inside Gridx, but you’re not in the food court chaos. Just follow the food court signs, keep walking, and eventually you’ll land in front of a discreet entrance that feels almost like you’ve found a secret.

I visited on a Friday lunch with a friend, and you can book either the bar, the main dining room, or the backroom. From what I understood and saw, the main room is the real option for lunch — the bar works more for late afternoons, and the backroom seems to open only when necessary. So: book the main.

Visually, Jane is gorgeous. A very New York–bistrot vibe, dim enough to flatter everyone, stylish but not stiff. The only drawback? The tables are too close, and for my personal liking, way too close. If you can, go for the window side — the entrance-side tables feel a bit more cramped and exposed.

Cocktails: the highlight of the experience

We started with cocktails, mainly because the menu is impossible to resist: a long list of classics and signatures, each one rated based on acidity, strength, flavor profile, etc. A brilliant idea — I wish more places would do that.

I went for a classic Spicy Margarita, Anne picked something called Ceviche, which was really spicy. Both cocktails were beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. If there’s one reason that would pull me back to Jane immediately, it’s the cocktail program. Ten out of ten, would come again just for drinks.

Small Bites Before Lunch

Instead of proper starters, we shared two of the small bites: fried olives and homemade pickles.

Now, as someone who grew up in the birthplace of fried olives, these were… not quite there. The crust was lovely, but the olive inside felt watery and the filling lacked punch. The pickles were fine for me — crispy, slightly tangy — though Anne found them on the sweeter side.

The Mains

I chose the veal schnitzel Milanese, which arrives as a very generous portion and comes with one side of your choice. I went for fries, but next time I’d be tempted by the more interesting veggie options. The dish is assembled directly at the table: poached egg, parmesan, parsley, anchovies. A bold combination that helped elevate the flavor of the meat, which on its own was a bit under-seasoned.

Anne ordered a vol-au-vent, a dish I must have eaten twice a week during my first year in Luxembourg — so now I avoid ordering it unless truly inspired. She seemed happy with it, though.

We paired the mains with a glass of wine each, and finished with a coffee.

The Bill

  • 2 cocktails (Anne’s was €19…)
  • 2 small bites
  • 2 mains
  • 2 glasses of wine
  • 2 coffees

The total came to €180 for two.

Now, I’m used to Luxembourg prices, but Gridx is outside the city and the South is usually more accessible. So yes — it felt expensive for the location and for a lunch without dessert or extras.

Final Thoughts

Despite the price point and the table spacing, I liked Jane. The setting is beautiful, the service was pleasant, and the cocktail menu alone is worth a return. I wouldn’t come back for the fried olives, but I’d happily return to try more of the menu — I’ll just make sure to request a better table.

Jane is still new (a few weeks old), and you can feel there’s potential. If they tweak a couple of details, this could easily become one of the South’s most exciting dining spots.
