Beim Schlass, Wiltz, Luxembourg

πŸ“ Beim Schlass, Wiltz, Luxembourg

With bright skies, sunnier days, and warmer temperatures, it’s perfect for a short out-of-town getaway. This was our chance to discover Beim Schlass. The restaurant is nestled in the quaint village of Wiltz center, just behind its castle and the Amphitheatre where the famous Wiltz festival takes place every summer.

This restaurant, along with its hotel, has been a local institution for ages, offering comfort Luxembourgish cuisine. After enduring some hard times, partly due to Covid, the restaurant closed. However, after a significant renovation, it has recently changed management.

That said, we were still expecting simple, unsophisticated Luxembourgish cuisine, but oh, boy! We were wrong.

The concept behind the restaurant remains working with local products, from bread to meat to vegetables. However, the local cuisine now offered is anything but unsophisticated. If you expect your main dish served with greasy and frozen fries, you’re in the wrong place because at Beim Schlass, they don’t serve fries at all.

We dined Γ  la carte, although the menu also offers some nice and convenient menu options, starting at 35 Eur for lunch

I ordered the Jerusalem Artichoke with egg confit, followed by beef fillet served with pears and endive. Mr had the champignon toast, one of the several vegetarian dishes available, followed by guinea fowl and oyster mushrooms.

The dishes were hearty yet refined in presentation and carefully selected ingredients and taste combinations. As I tend to eat beef only on rare occasions in recent years, I prefer it cooked to perfection, and my beef at Beim Schlass was perfectly rare.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food, including the delicious dessert, especially my choux pastry. It was the kind of dinner you wish to experience again for the first time to be amused and surprised.

In addition to the amazing food, we also enjoyed great service: our waiter was knowledgeable – suggesting a lovely Luxembourgish wine – and extremely kind. We were also served one of the best Porn Star martinis I’ve had recently.

Our experience at Beim Schlass in Wiltz was a surprising journey through local tastes, elevated by outstanding culinary art, exceeding all previous expectations.

If you’re seeking an superb restaurant off the beaten track, a place for celebration, a unique spot for a date, or a family lunch, Beim Schlass is definitely THE place to add to your list now.
