Miel et Safran, Luxembourg City

Couple of weeks ago, meeting my friend Jonathan was a good excuse to finally try a place which has been on my list since the opening, Miel et Safran in rue de Notre Dame.

The place is the younger, recently opened sister of the most famous Miel et Safran in Yutz, just off the French border.

The venue has been through an impressive renovation since the last ownership and has now an authentic atmosphere, thru games of shades and dim lights, warm details and wooden furniture to pair the dark celling reflection.

Now to the food: the proposal is interesting and surely something new, at least in the Old Town. Whatever you eat (or not), you will probably be able to find something for you, as on the menu every dish is declined in a meat, fish or vegetarian version.

We started with a mixed starter platter. I find this is one of the best way to discover a new place and we were positively impressed: the dish was a mix of some of the cold starters available, nicely presented in single pots – rather than in a unique platter like most of the places I visited so far. All the starters included were good. I adored in particular the hummus and the fattoush. Probably the mules were the only food which seems not much connected to the others.

As main, Jonathan went for a kefta tajines, while I opted for a tanjias with chicken. Food was good and very tasty. The sides, oppositely, were pretty bland for my palate. Portions were indeed huge, so much I would not suggest to take the mixed starter plus an entire main dish.

The best for me, in such place, would be to come in a group of friends and take different dishes, starters included, to share, in a convivial atmosphere.

My experience at Miel and Saffran was pleasant, also due to nice company, but food and service were similarly good and I look forward to be back to try other dishes on the menu.

Last note, alcohol wise, next to wine, you have a fairly good selection of exotic cocktails.

Place is perfect for a date or, better, a group of friends for a night out.

Picture of our lunch to close.
